Garfield Courthouse: Appalachian Farmland

Garfield Courthouse ("GC")

Whereas Bridgeport is a busy stop along the GC mainline, Garfield Courthouse is mainly farmland, and only an occasional GC freight customer. Below, a pair of elderly Burlington Northern units have just gone from the "subway" into Garfield Courthouse with a unit grain train in tow:

This same BN unit grain train is pictured below from a different angle, providing a good view of the farmhouse at Garfield Courthouse:

While the farmer by the barn attempts to carry a heavy pipe towards his tractor, a westbound train with a CNW F-unit on the point rolls past:

Just east of Garfield Courthouse is the "Bohl Crossing" 4-way crossover again. From there, the main continues into a tunnel, as pictured below to the left, and on into Clarendon Gap. To the right, a long westbound coal train is coming downgrade from Summit to Williamsport:

The switch to the far left in the above photograph, and pictured more closely below, marks the beginning of the "cutoff" which allows trains to go from Clarendon Gap straight to Williamsport, thus bypassing the bulk of the layout:

Finally, our train is about to reach its eastern terminus, Clarendon Gap.
