Williamsport: The West End

Williamsport on the left, the West Loop on the right and the grade to Summit marked as "7"
Williamsport is a fairly busy terminal, with its own yard and engine terminal, as well as
passenger station. There is a long passing siding eastbound, with the yard and other
various sidings situated south of the main. Additionally, the west loop of the layout is
located at Williamsport. The below train is about to enter the west loop:

A passenger extra rounds the curve westbound at Williamsport
East out of Williamsport, the main ducks under a large bridge and then encounters "Bohl
Crossing" as well as the stiff eastbound grade.

An eastbound ducks under a bridge and bites into the grade as it approaches Bohl Crossing
Below is a view of the mains at the
crossover, seen with a westbound CNW plow extra passing through. The "cutoff" from
Williamsport to Clarendon is on the far left, the main from Williamsport to Summit enters
the photo from the left, and the plow extra is returning to Garfield Courthouse from Clarendon
Gap on the other main. The tower stands between the mains, watching over it all:

The grade is a difficult one to climb, especially if your train is extemely heavy and/or
underpowered. The below shot of a Pennsy passenger train gives an idea of the terrain
heading east from Williamsport. Note, as in the picture below, the two mains are separated
on the grade:

Here is a coal train heading east, photographed further up the hill. Here the main crosses
over two other portions of the GC main:

A long light-engine move with combined New England Central and Guilford power creeps down the hill

Another view of the light engine move, at the location known as "Gaskill Run"
The next stop is Summit, at the top of the hill.
