July/August 2004 Work Report
First, my apologies for not reporting our progress as quickly as it has
been taking place -- we are working too hard on laying track in Summit! All joking
aside, tracklaying continues in Summit. By the end of August, all of Summit's ties had been laid,
glued down, stained, sanded, and restained (this method of hand-laying track is known as the CALSA
method -- "Cut And Lay Stain Afterwards").
Moreover, actual track laying has begun! Our first
rails are in the immediate area of the Summit station, where the trolley line crosses over the paper
mill branch twice, all within the confines of street pavement. One crossover is complete and the
second is in progress. Frank Schneider has done a terrific job in spearheading the tracklaying effort.
The below image details our tie-laying progress for trackage at the east end of Summit and some close-ups of
the newly-laid trackage in Summit. In the meantime, work continues!

Two spurs for outdoor log and pulp unloading have just been glued down

Here is the initial tracklaying in Summit. The trolley and hopper are on the trolley line; the other
line is freight-only and will serve the paper mill in East Summit.

Here is another view of the newly-laid trackage. This segmnet of trackage will all become in-street
once scenery starts.
That's it for the July/August 2004 work update. September '04 will depict completed tie-laying in Summit and additional
progress on tracklaying as well.
