February 2005 Work Report
This month we're going to feature some of our recently-completed projects
in the context of standard operations on the Garfield Central. We'll start with the new
westbound signals installed in Clarendon Gap (known to railroaders simply as CA), which were featured
last month. These signals are now completely funtional in terms of aspect logic, distant block
indications, etc. John Molls built the signal and Pat Reardon oversaw its installation:

In the above scene, the freight is coming off of the controlled (i.e. signalled) siding and
crossing over onto the westbound main. It's being governed by the green aspect at right, which is
about to drop to red as the lead engine enters into the interlocking's block.
The upper of the two red signals indicates that Bohl Crossing is cleared for opposing movements
only -- but it won't be long before this job is at the diamond, waiting for a signal to proceed.
Over in Summit, tracklaying continues but at a slowed pace since we're waiting for additional
turnout kits before proceeding. The two spurs serving the pulpwood unloading area are complete
and will be featured next month. As soon as additional turnout kits are received, tracklaying
will proceed on the remaining paper mill spurs, one of which is seen below at right:

Over at the west end of Summit, tracklaying is also on hold due to turnout kit
shortages. In the meantime, the action is heavy; in the below view, a New England Central road job
is setting off cars on the wood spur (featured in the
March 2004 Work Report) and a Norfolk and Western coal drag holds on Controlled Siding #3 while
a Santa Fe 4-8-4 gets ready to head west with an express passenger train:

That about wraps it up for this month. Next time, we'll try to feature some other recently-completed
projects, including the eastbound signals governing entrance into CA, as well as the newly-installed
westbound signals governing entrance into the West Loop -- these were just installed on March 18th.
We'll also show the trackage that has been laid in Summit, and there will be a few other odds and ends
featured as well.
