Raising the Floors

Work is under way to create a raised walkway in the aisles around the layout, once this is completed it should make it easier for visitors to appreciate the layout during open days.  These photo's show the work under way and the plywood surface will be painted after completion.

A short ramp leads up to the raised walkway from just inside the club entrance

Looking back towards the club entrance gives a good impression of the width of the walkway and shows the walkway branching into the next aisle as it follows the layout around.

A unfinished section of the walkway with just beyond it one of the existing boxes that visitors and members currently use to get a raised view of the layout.

The unfinished section showing the construction method and the feet supporting the walkway.

Another view of the unfinished walkway showing the width, currently to get the same height over the layout you would have to drag one of the boxes into place and stand on that.

Work is starting here to finish the corner on one corner of the walkway.

Hammers and power tools have temporarily replaced track pins and needle nosed pliers but...

... prototypically, it still takes three men to put in one screw.

The underlying construction is very soundly built.
